The First Rung

We first seek wisdom on our knees.
Without admitting uncertainty,
We cannot learn.

Once educated, we question.
Spinning orbs, sparkling stars,
Twisting proteins that interweave,
Dirt-shrouded bones in sacher-torte layers,
Tiny plants embossed on stone--these
Seem to explain all.  What need have we
For a Creator's will?

Greater truth steals in like smoke through
Cracks in a wall.
A guiding hand is not the issue--love is.
Love can build cities, save lives,
Encourage the frightened, embolden the weak.
Without it, no shepherd's son could confront
Tyrannical lord, no beaten wife her husband.
Love is our work, what we should be drawn to.
Religion is but the first rung
On the ladder of faith.

Author notes

Option #3 - Aerden

At the moment, this is very badly written. I will have to revise it and make it more graceful.

I see this is a rough draft, It's written nicely so far though
You have many good points in it. I'm assuming your still revising it so I'll give a few pointers
No doubt you've gotton the point across in this write, you could probably put in more in-depth words, imagery and whatnot. For instance there are better sounding words than "work", you know. Overall though, this is great for a rough draft.

"We first seek wisdom on our knees.

    We cannot learn"

^ absolutely true, I may write that down someday for inspiration. It sounds like one of those quotes you look up on google when you're wanting some inspiration haha.

Great job, I can only imagine what this will be like when you're completely finished with it let me know when it's complete!
Thanks for entering and good luck

Thank you for your comments. I'll keep working on this. I hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew. I think the issues you brought up on your contest page are important ones, and I am glad to have the chance to talk about them.
