Good Morning, America!

Who will we kill today?
Three children on the edge of Kandahar,
an old woman in Anbar
with an artillery shell,

imagine their surprise
as they fly into the sky.

we've sent
johnny off to school
to play “I spy” with little girls.
He draws Predators
with shiny bombs
absorbing the rules,
dressed like all the rest

in bloody clothes--

America,

what shall we buy today;
a garden hose
a shake & fries

a starburst?

In a list

Please tell me what you think

Right now I need to get some sleep.

    When I wake up ...

    Who can I trust?
    Can I trust you?

Every morning they line up before the flag and pledge allegiance. One nation under God, and all that.

It is difficult to avert misanthropic thoughts, but it is possible. Move on. Move on. Nothing to see here, as we send our children off to be socialized.

ed no activist. ed simply observe and occasionally record.

neither am I. But you see, they believe that we will not push back, and it is coming to the point where we will:

"Amy Goodman is one of the most well-known and well-respected journalists in the United States. She has received journalism's top honors for her reporting and has a distinguished reputation of bravery and courage. The arrest of Goodman, Kouddous and Salazar and the subsequent criminal charges and threat of charges are a transparent attempt to intimidate journalists."

      http://www.alternet.org/rights/97194/amy_goodman_and_two_democracy_now%21_producers_unlawfully_arrested_at_rnc/

and so and so forth. perhaps it will not be you or I, fat and lazy and satisfied as we are--but there is a madness on the horizon, and they are feeding it daily.

That's the problem, the fear is beginning to be intolerable, used to be somewhat amusing--now it has become sinister, malevolent.
what sent shivers down my spine was when Cheney said "So..." when informed that public opinion was overwhelmingly opposed to policy.

Lordy I don't want to go banging on the front of a tank with my umbrella.

            Yup.

thing is; I see a lot of people and/or groups with which I would agree and empathise who are perfectly willing to employ the same tactics. And I don't much see the difference between a tank coming from the right or coming from the left.

A cop is a fucking cop, and he's gonna fuck you if he gets the chance regardless of where the orders come from. Problem is that they turn everyone into cops.

cops in Uniform in US--864,000, support, 270,000. That's the official ones as you intimate--

The tanks support the staus quo, regardless of the reigning idiotology--

One can forsee scenarios in which Obama if elected will be forced to deploy them because of the things King George and his Cronies have fucked up--the situation in Georgia for instance, where Mr. Cheney has instigated a crisis with Russia over the access to Georgian Oil. (We supposed to cheer for tiny little Georgia cause of the awful Russian Bear ya know. Meanwhile Mr Cheney locks up Georgian ports with US naval forces) Anyways...
that's one scenario bequeathed to an Obama administration...not to mention the seething electorate here.

I think you see the climate in the US much as I do, as a smokescreen to keep us from what is the important issues and all we get is the pomp and celebrity status of the candidates as George goes his merry blind way and the ones who suffer are the children as the companies who make the shells and the mortars rake in the blood dollars and keep making more.Obama says America it's time for a change but how many really believe that will happen? It may take a nebula explosion to wake people up but I hope it is a starburst and not nuclear. C

Your words are stong and your passion is evident. Although I am not opposed to the military mission in Afghanistan your words serve as a potent reminder of innocents killed. I especially liked the ending of the poem. Too many people seem oblivious to what is going on in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere in the world.

I prefer the intelligent observations of someone that I disagree with to the blindly numb expressions of the national sheep herd.

    Great job.

I love the way you put America's actions in war. Making it sound useless, definetly the way i picture it.

    Yes ...

reality is far removed from dreams and moonlight and roses. Cut (in)to the bone, the truth shows its marrow.

Wow, this is indeed a description of the inbalances that exist today...The reality and non-reality. Truly a riveting write that exhibits what many don't even bother to observe or question.

Hmm, not sure this works. I'm a great fan of some of your other work, which is exceptionally moving, but this strikes me as a little trite and uneasy. I can see (I think) what you're trying to do, but no - Perhaps it's just not my thing. Sorry for being blunt but I guess that's why we're here for each other.
