M i c a h 6 : 8

He has shown you what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly, to love tenderly,
and to walk humbly with your God.

+ + + +  M I C A H  6 : 8  + + + +

I love this verse because it speaks of what God desires from us;
not burnt holocausts or impressive offerings as in the Old Testament;
not 40 day fasts or large ostentatious sacrifices or public displays of our religiosity.

Rather God desires justice, not the kind we may think of which is more like retaliation, "an eye for an eye". I think the type of justice God desires is social justice, the basic human rights of the persecuted freed, the hungry fed, the naked clothed, the homeless housed, the sick comforted, the imprisoned visited,
the gospel preached to all the nations.

God's justice heals. It requires us to love tenderly, to show mercy; to give of ourselves rather than hoard what we have.

God also desires that we walk in humbleness beside him; acknowledging that He is Father, master and teacher, and that we are each a child of God, a child of the king! We accept this with a sense of awe and humility, for it is God that has done this for us. We cannot earn one iota of the honor he bestows on us. It is not a groveling humility, but a humility bestowed graciously and accepted gratefully.

    You are a walking, talking, living, and loving, example of a true testament of what God means to you. I agree with what you have written in this poem about social justice. You have presented it so beautifully. It is obvious to anyone with sense that you are a Teacher. Awesome write.

    Very true and insightful. These are wonderful qualities and hard to cultivate in our own hard, prideful, and selfish hearts. May God help us to do these things before Him.

    My sons favorite verse as he was at camp, and singing it as a chorus...It truly is basic to our faith, and you have explained it so well. Beautifully done!
