White smoke rising
Screams no more
In twisting silence
Author notes
Thanks to Amera's Haiku teachings here on AP, I discovered that the 5,7,5 pattern ain't necessarily so!

Chilling.... it's amazing how much impact you created with so few words. I am still reeling from the sick feeling it gave me in the pit of my stomach. Reminded me of haunting scenes such as Auschwitz, Rwanda, and the Japanese occupation of China during WWII - among others.
Harrowing writing. I just still can't figure out how you do this with so few words.

The "twisting silence" is very original and the haiku as a whole has an eirie affect that I really like.
Thank you for your submission.
