Thoughts Near a Childhood Pond

Missing image

Discovery's stairs
lend footing and residual climb.

          Pretense perfects the last
          measure of playtime

when sunrise finds her breath of freedom
and sunset closes her childhood days,

          drifting aimlessly
    beneath lapping water,
lily pads

and quiet memories.

Beautiful piece of set free verse. With your poems, dear poet, part of the artistry is the lineation and spacing upon the blank page.
References to sunrise and sunset can be so predictable but yours speaks wonderfully to the title!
"when sunrise finds her breath of freedom
and sunset closes her childhood days."
The alliteration of "lapping" with "lily pads" is so effective because it is unobtrusive yet ties the two together so aptly.
    Best wishes.
    Lyndon.

I like the way you have written this. It doesn't make "sense" as such, but it totally gives "feeling".

It's as if all the secrets of the universe are held in the mysteries of childhood and such beautiful places as this "pond". Another poem too, Pamela, of enigmatic beauty that has it's own current beneath the surface. ~ Karen

    Wonderful

I think it’s written beautifully, it reminds me of when I was younger and didn’t have to deal with such hard situations that come with growing up. When I wasn’t a teenager, life was so much similar, and it’s amazing how you can reach back then and bring it into the now.

    Great :)

This is capable of taking one to a world which is so familiar...I guess that's the way one connects with people through poetry. Your memories make a mark, truly...and it makes us think of what is left in us of that child that we all used to be. Excellent work. Congrats!
