Stand By To Roll Credits

The birth of something new
Projecting from your TV
Brushed across the screen
A new show for the eyes to see

The outside air is getting colder
The search is on to warm the heart
Curl up in your favorite chair
The show is about to start

Smiling at the opening scene
Hoping to be laughing alot
There is quite a cast of characters
As you seek to find a plot

The mind is sifting through the actors
Looking to find one to relate to
Two eyes busily scanning the people
Hoping to not settle for one who will do

Getting distracted by the phone
While flipping the pages of a magazine
There is a sudden itch to look up
And lock eyes with the person on the screen

Turning attention back into the show
This character thinks they play a small part
Though in listening to what is said
These spoken words are pouring from a big heart

Sitting in the shadows of silence
Watching to see if the character is true
Soon to discover
This person could really relate to you

Now tuning in every week
Going out of the way to not miss a beat
Thoughts chasing through the mind
What if this person passed on the street

Growing close to this person
Feeling they have become a true friend
An understanding attached to every word
With a sympathizing thought wishing to send

Sharing their lines at work
This friendship seemed all too real
Yet lurking is a silent change
Reality sets in to alter how one feels

Thoughts spiral in another direction
Those words spoken are from others pens
How can this character relate
While staring at a blank camera lens

These feelings take their toll
One stops looking to watch the show
Suddenly any excuse will do
Like taking a drive with no place to go

Staring into a blank TV screen
One has no more thoughts to lend
Stand by to roll the credits
A good thing has come to an end.
