Skin Deep

From gaze afar,
and creeds so near,
skins broken, bloodied,
in lands once dear.

Storms hath ravaged,
till death we strive,
in broken twisted egos,
only roses shall survive.

Hi dear brother..so good to get back to your poetry...and truly this is one of your best! It brings home the ravages of war, and the heroes of it...my interpretation perhaps but the roses are their lives..How wonderful the words, and you for writing it!

pain shed from one soul can breed a flood of emotion, it such release of emotions that allows hope to rise from the ashes.

i have twisted my ego several times and faced death too, so the storms survived and roses come up through the mud and clay and manure too...
this is a cleverly worded short poem, has many layers ... well done
