Sweet girl, be strong.
Remember that the lilies of the field
did not spin or toil and were arrayed
in splendor as you will be one day.
Green years lie ahead,
but for now the days
stack up like so many bowls
needing to be washed.
Silken words slip through my fingers
and onto the pages I write to you--
a post script of hugs and kisses
to bind us together.
“Handle with care” I whisper
to the squeaking mailbox lid,
watch darkness swallow the envelope
and walk home to reread your letters.

An awesome write part taken from the bible consider the lilies of the field
and then the second stanza of a woman struggling for her rights behind a pile od dishes
awesome!!!!!! spellbinding -
"Sweet, Lily, Green, Stack, Bowl, Silk, Handle, Post, Bind, Read ..." It seems so banal when stated like that
...like: thread, needle, buttons, cloth, ribbon; to discribe a ball gown.
What a wonderful confection you've brought to light with your little list of words!

I never would have guessed this a word bank, you used every word without force and the whole poem fitted together with great sentiments and emotion. Best to you. May I add you to my favourites?

This takes me back to the days I was heavily into penpalling. Sadly most of my letters have been replaced by email which isn't quite the same. There is something so very special about a letter in the mailbox written with a familiar pen. Brilliant write.

Very good use of word bank. I feel your correspondence is with none other than yourself. If you toil now better time is ahead. That is the message I get. Well done.

-
this is one of my favorites that you've ever written, wonderful imagery and feeling.

Enjoyable piece. Excellent title. Loving encouragement from home. Very nice biblical similie in the first stanza. Great imagery in the second stanza. I appreciated the reality of connections we make through the written word. Loved the interaction with the mailbox. One of the delights of letters is that they can be enjoyed repeatedly.
Excellent, cohesive write from your prompt words.
