Jacob

Well Autumn's here again old lad,
the leaves are turning gold.
And what is left of summer days,
is quickly growing old.

The days are so much cooler now,
the air once more is clear.
I miss you more than ever boy,
now winter's almost here.

For winter was our special time,
when we could run and play.
For you'd regain your health again,
as summer passed away.

The coolness of the mornings,
meant that I could ride with you.
Across our favourite acres,
In the early morning dew.

But gone those days when we were one,
and all the times before.
You left an ache within my heart,
When you walked through heavens door.

The smell of hay upon your breath,
as your muzzle touched my face.
The way I'd stand and watch you run,
with amazing style and grace.

In my times of pain and tears,
you kept my spirits high.
Unconditionaly loving me,
until the day you died.

Your bridle still hangs on the wall,
uncleaned since you've been gone,
Your saddle's in the same old place,
where it always will belong.

So as I watch the leaves turn gold,
and the air turn clear once more.
I shed my tears in silence now,
for all that passed before.

Wow. I never realized how much of a soft spot I have for animals. Horses are my favorite. It was very beautifully put. I like the rhythm it has to it. It gives it a nice touch. Thank you for the entry. Nice work. Keep it up.

    Now how did I ...

miss this heartwarming tribute of yours? Sure glad that I found it as it is just beautifully shared. I was never able to own a horse but have been around a good many of them. I could sense the smell of hay and the muzzle part that you shared as there is something quite special in the way that automatically connects the souls of both. All in all your poem just canters along with a nice rhythm and rhyme. joy

    Oh-h so sad!!!!!!

This is so sad. I truly can't empathize with you! It is amazing how horses can touch our lives and mean so-o very much. We put my daughter's mare down not quite 2 yrs ago. It's still a hard thing to deal with. Your poem is written most splendidily. Bravo to you. And I share your pian. Hugs, grandniem

I hate it when a loved pet dies; they're just like family in my opinion and its just as sad.

This was a great piece with good rhyme and you managed to work and weave some great emotions in it. I could really feel what you were trying to get through and how it was for you.

Thanks for entering and good luck!

Lovely and moving, bringing a touch of sadness to the heart of anyone who has lost an animal companion. I liked especially stanzas 1 and 7, both so descriptive. Another great work. Thank you.

    Hi Mal

Don't know much about horses, only rode under one twice!LOL
They say that the horse is the only creature on earth
that the Devil is afraid of!
This being true, he would have paid particular care with the likes of the horse you've described here.
Very good write, Mal! Good all around reading!
