we had paper, radio, and TV.
For what, you ask?
For reaching out
beyond that world which we can only see…
Let’s begin far, far back
before recorded history
from which I’ve personally recovered some fascinating
rare and ancient imagery…
Unfortunately the technology
of our remarkable cavemen friends
had been lost during the 123rd ice-laden age
and we’ve been crawling back to reclaim that level of existence ever since…
Soooooooooo…
About 15,000 years ago
someone in France got us back on track
and began documenting and sharing their wonderful views…
not quite a podcast, but it was a start…
Around that time writing was invented-
another form of mind-to-mind link-
and here is a page from one of the first books written,
which weighed several tons
and did not easily lend itself to mass distribution…

Not being huge of girth,
the Egyptians naturally gravitated
to a lighter medium…
Papyrus offering some nice results
in writing…
and art…
Then a Chinaman invented paper
arriving in the West via Medieval Arabs
and now we are buried under the stuff
thanks to Gutenberg and his enterprising friends…

though it eased the burden on future distribution networks…
and gave rise to the exotic books and magazines
that we enjoy today…
Wonderful, just wonderful technology,
at once both edifying and abused
while giving office workers the contented feeling
of being useful and not used…
Great scientists came along
experimenting with electricity and magnetism
and poof! waddaya know-
soon the first radiowave messages came into being…
Hello, Marconi.
Culture began to change…
along with style and fashion…
I want to be like the new one…
and portability began making a comeback…
But that’s not all!
During those formative years someone took the time
to invent candy not just for the ear, but also for the eye…
although its evolution…

had dubious results,
but gave the direct descendents of the caveman a new passtime…
and it became our new best friend…
On the horizon, geeks were working night and day
on a mysterious, inscrutable future digital landscape
that would be a home to life and love…
and the first personal computer was born…
not too portable, and still no Internet connection…
Finally, we are commuting on the hyper-interactive informationally-crammed content-rich superhighway
with desktops, laptops, pods, phones, watches, and eyeglasses, and toothbrushes of every size, shape, color, and form…
and we are finally back to where we once were,
500,000 years ago…

Ahhhhhhhh…
