Never Been a Child

Missing image
Upon the evolutionary tree,
she resides up at the top
Her development a mystery,
her mind doesn’t ever stop

Encased in a shroud of red,
she ponders away the days
She wishes to slow her thinking down,
and just go out to play

Her parents push her ever still,
to rise above the rest
To beat the challenge to better up,
to ace the final test

Her time is never of her own,
the clock it ticks so fast
She started out as just a child,
but those days have long passed

Reaching that ripe old age of twelve,
she is considered an adult
She’s has never known much fun
but that is not her fault

Pushed to the very brink
then shoved over the line
She dreams the day she’s left alone,
that moment would be divine

Her moments come she has found the day,
her thoughts are hers alone
She sits there mortified because,
to her this is unknown

Alone she cries afraid to live,
her life does haunt her still
Forever she is lived for someone else
and knows she always will

    wow...
    the ending left me speechless...
i would never have been able to come up with this based on the prompt...
    so, great take!
    i really understand this poem (if in my own way); always pushed to be better than you are, better than everyone else is;
    to have others always make the decisions for you, and never having a say in the matter;
not a child, because playing was not an option, but still definetely not an adult, because youth and ignorance are still a part of you...
beautiful, terribly beautiful, concept you have here....
thanks for entering, and i wish you the best of luck!
