Pills of Happiness

Oh, wouldn't it be
loverly

if happiness
could still,

be found upon
the grocer's shelf
and sold as a
small pill?

To be taken
daily,

right before the noontime
meal.

So, with manic
deep depressions,

one would never
have to deal.

The pink are for depression.

The red for A.D.D.

The yellow are for panic
and high anxiety.

The purple stop the voices.

The white suppress one's fears.

The blue are made of sugar
providing hypochondrial
good cheer.

And taken
all by
handfuls.

Those brightly colored
pills.

Would wrap warped minds
in yards of gauze,
staving off
ill-will.

So, when the question's
asked,

and the response
is simply
"What?"

Don't get upset
or flustered.

Remember,
the world is full of
medicated
nuts!

    hee hee hee

What a fun, easy to read, sarcastically tuned pick me up for a rainy afternoon chained to my desktop at work and forced to create or approve such phrases as "stick it in your ear" for a hearing aid business. I'd write more, but my voices tell me it's time for the white pill.

    Write On!

Is There A Pill For An Addiction To Pills?

Some surprising punctuation oversights here: “So, when the question[']s asked,” and “The white suppress one[']s fears.” But, all niggling edits aside, this poem DOES meet the full complement of contest expectations. Thank you kindly for entering the "A Few Words I'm Sick of Seeing" contest!

I really enjoyed this - found the humour infectious although you really do make a serious point. As Marc has already stated it does point out that we are heavily dependent on medical moments to some extent. And again as forethought mentioned the pills for ADD also need to be fed to several in my classes too, though occasionally they are put on ritolin.. well written and well structured throughout. Thanks for sharing and good luck in your contest.

Oh so damned and unfortunately true . . . This both gave me a chuckle and the realization that too many of us are bound psychologically and physically by the whims of medical practioners . . .

This is hilarious, thank you for sharing.

Technically, there are lots of little pills like that, they just aren't so colorful, and aren't quite legal. Lol.

I loved the short, sweet meter, and I liked how you included a pill for ADD; I think if I ever find those, there are a few people in my classes I'm going to force-feed them to.
