Streetfight

Indeed a pleasant night is this,
This pleasant night of June;
The air is warm, the streets are calm,
proud shines the rising moon.

And walking through the moonlit street,
His eyes afire with power;
Here's Gnasher all dressed up in white,
here at the midnight hour.

His brown-stained coat is all aglow,
He walks without a care;
He walks amongst his friends tonight,
with quite a regal air.

He starts the night's proceedings here,
Deep in the alley dark;
And loud the club discusses now,
the crimes of those that bark.

And midst the night's discussions grave,
We slowly grow aware -
Of six new eyes united in
a cold and frosty stare.

Yes, six new eyes on three new faces,
Unfamiliar faces;
We wait and watch their actions now,
quiet at our places.

Jet black's their dress, the triad strange,
As black as blackest night;
And in their stances we do sense
a hunger for a fight.

'Who's there?', brave Gnasher asks aloud,
'Who's there?' is their reply;
'Who's there?' we ask unitedly,
'Who's there?' we hear them cry.

The cries grow louder, tempers fly,
The strangers we attack;
The silence is all shattered now,
There is no turning back.

A window opens up above,
Down swift a boot is thrown;
'Shut up, you cats. I need some sleep'
It's each cat for his own!

    Very well done and very humorous as well. I loved the rhyme and the rhythm of this piece as much as as the fun. I've heard cats go off, even though I'm way out away from even a small town, they still congregate and bicker amongst each other... that is of course, until neighborly canines get an earful and break it up. A bit different than your tale, but perhaps now I will be able to laugh at it... or throw a boot out with a good straight aim

    and best wishes always... ~Genie~

    where I used to live, the alleys were full of cats of all descriptions. Then I moved to a place where they had dogs and cats. Now, I meet cats, dogs, and cows... ^__^

    a fine a witty take you have penned here with a very wonderful ending. Damn, brought back memories of my younger days in Brooklyn and those big ole ally cats.
