Tears of shooting stars

Tears of grief etch the sky with starlit fireworks
icy pain rips apart a child's heart to see his mother fall
the arms that carried him on a bony hip up stairs, cover bruising face.

The fingers that wrote a valedictorian's speech turn black and blue
the throat that sings the lullabies traded for song has finger marks around it.
Seven year old eyes watch the pain swelling up inside the room- unable to get out.

Two barefeet walk to the woman who slept with her arms around him when he had nightmares
Amber eyes look up at the raining blows with wisdom beyond their sights
"Daddy, I did the bad thing. Hit me too!"

Reality strikes away the facade of beer bottles smashed in slivers on the floor
Innocence wipes away the relief of rusty needles and dreamless sleep.
Warm tears begin to fall like a into scraggly whispers and sorrow shades drunken eyes.

Blazing fires in the sky fall to pieces in fiery tears.

Wow! This has so much emotional appeal to it. I like that you showed the love and care that the mother has for her child and that her child has for her. This is so common today. Dysfunctional families seem to be the norm and a lot of children have to experience this. This poem is very deep and real. It definitely hits home. I really appreciate this piece.
