Possessions Left Behind

Those old antiques ,old pictures and beds,
lost to have any purpose to the last owners now dead.
Layer of dust caked so dwells within this house,
all possessions left behind now.

Thirty years they lay dormant the air chocked within its cavity,
that is until I felt this old house calling to me.
A drifter in search of a home just passing by,
yet for a moment I felt a cold chill and glaring eyes.

I stopped my car and stepped up to the gate,
I couldn't believe the feelings and the coldness about my face.
Intrigued I went forward and peeked through the windows there,
and after a bit it's though I saw someone and became so aware.

Slowly I backed away yet I felt a pulling on my soul,
I turned slowly I couldn't take it anymore.
Straight to the door I went and to my surprise,
it slowly opened as though it were an invite.

No one knew where I was and I was chilled to the bone,
I searched in my pocket and found I had left my phone.
As I walked through the house I became sick from a sweet smell of death,
It was a smell so strong it made me wretch.

Turning I saw a darkness move within the room like dust in the breeze,
and I tried to hurry to the door but it swung shut no longer free.
It pressed me quickly back against a wall,
and that stench became so thick as the darkness engulfed me unable to call.

My body commenced to shaking as though a thousand pins pierced my soul,
Leaving me as quickly as it had come before.
I slowly rose only to know I wasn't alone,
as I wretched I knew they had found a new home.

I ran to the doorway and it opened as by itself,
screaming I ran from this place looking for help.
A voice whispered raspy within my mind,
I will never leave you you carry those possessions left behind.
