Ireland in Mourning

Missing image

His life in Ireland had just begun

He was only 45 years young

When illness knocked upon his door

And took him away forevermore

A grandfather's short time on earth

Was blessed by witnessing Mánus's birth

It seems unfair that Ireland's beloved one

Was taken so soon from his baby grandson

Ireland loves each child, woman, and man

The reason for death we may not understand

We must leave it to God when it is time

With love in our hearts for Him, sublime

Author notes

Dedicated to Dolores (Lady Ireland) and her young grandson, Mánus, whose paternal grandfather passed away on Monday, 8/25/08. May he rest forever in the loving peace of the Lord's heart.

"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal." ~From a headstone in Ireland

"When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight." ~Kahlil Gibran

"Oh heart, if one should say to you that the soul perishes like the body, answer that the flower withers, but the seed remains." ~Kahlil Gibran

"Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy." ~Author Unknown

"While we are mourning the loss of our friend, others are rejoicing to meet him behind the veil." ~John Taylor

"Let children walk with Nature, let them see the beautiful blendings and communions of death and life, their joyous inseparable unity, as taught in woods and meadows, plains and mountains and streams of our blessed star, and they will learn that death is stingless indeed, and as beautiful as life." ~John Muir

This is a lovely and heartfelt poem that speaks of grief and hope. It is especially difficult when a person is taken in the prime of life - so much potential left undeveloped. My prayers are with the family. Peace, Liz

    Heartfelt!!

What a beautiful poem you have penned for him. It brings a tear. A very heart touching poem for me to read. Your last lines remind me of the day last year I lost my son Brian.

We must leave it to God when it is time
With love in our hearts for Him, sublime

If not for my faith in God and knowing He must have a good reason to call him home I could not have gotten through it. This was a very uplifting poem for me to read this morning. Thank you so much. You take care.

    Bless You,
    Sandy

      Thank you Sandy,

I appreciate your thoughtfulness and kindness in Dolores's family's loss. You are always the compassionate soul. I remember when you shared your own loss with us, and I felt terrible, just thinking about Brian being such a young man, and I felt very sad and helpless for your broken heart. And I know that words alone can never describe such a painful event. I cannot imagine how it must feel to lose a child, as I have four boys of my own, and they are my world. Thank you again for your compassionate heart. You take care, and God Bless. Peace & Love Always, Cyn

Thank you for your thoughtful comments...

You are an angel. You're always right on with your thoughts, prayers, and good wishes, and I'm very glad you stopped in tonight to read this poem for little Mánus's grandfather. I suppose it was really a sad day all around, for Friday was his funeral. I thank you again. You are a good friend to all, Chez. And your heart is bigger than Australia & Ireland combined. Take care. Peace & Love Always, Cyn

    I am sad

this morning, reading as a human, but also as a friend, this poem. More so, the fact that I have been blessed with a special relationship, a friendship, over AP, with Dolores. Thank you for this much appreciated entry, and its reminder of our humanness. Be blessed. Frans

Two shocks your poem and the quotes allude to - the death of a man in middle age and the very young coming to terms with the meaning of death. I'm sure your words will help those left behind.

Tis a sad day when our love ones depart from us. my mother died at 32, I was only 6. That day is fresh as yesterday, for my life change, my love was lost, I was lost, to this day I grieve for her. So much has been missing from my life. Thank you and blessings to Lady Ireland and her grandson. she will have to share his memories with her son.

It is why we are here, to share a hug, love with others in their time of loss, for we are all united as humans. need love, sharing and caring. Thank you for relating this story.
