Summer's End

Another summer sets with the sun,
Taking all its warmth with it.
All I see is what is to come
With the winter as the moon awaits on the mountain's summit.

The distances I've traveled seem small
As I rest here on the water's edge,
Drinking in what little rain may fall
Into the pools just over this ledge.

So many faces I will always remember,
Although I wish I'd never looked upon some.
Sometimes, I long to mingle with the cold December,
But I know I'll wish the winter was done

Because I'll want those days I had with the ones I missed
Back in the palm of my hand.
I'd want to relive every little moment of summer's bliss.
How can the cold months of winter ever understand?

Another summer sets with the sun,
Taking all its warmth with it.
Though all I see is what's to come,
I'll wait for the sun's return with the moon on this summit.

Author notes

This is a very different poem compared to the others I've written. Hopefully you'll find it to your liking.

I very much liked this, it was well paced and well rythymed. It expresses a lot of feelings that I'm sure many people associate with. i think however if you had left out "On this summit" at the end the ending would have been crisper. The symmetry of the piece is also nice. The poem itself is very calming , and the location invokes a lot of curiosity.
