Hadley was a small little squirrel
left behind to fend for himself,
and what a life he did make.
So as he grew he learned one thing,
all things were there for him to take.
He stole watches and socks and even berettes,
food and hair pins and still doing it yet.
There's one thing Hadley would do with glee,
was to jump off a wire and in someones car he would be.
Yikkes they would yell and out they would go,
for this furry little devil scared them so.
He would dash around and take this and that,
then jump out the window and it happened just that fast.
Oh his little home was so colorful indeed,
amongst the nuts were doughnuts and ribbons and things that were shiny in the sun they would gleam.
He would even at times work on peoples welcome mats,
and with his little teeth and paws would get it to raveling then take off with a string trailing just like that.
He was Houdini when it came to bird feeders in town,
he would run down the limb and check each one of them out.
Once a neighbor mounted theirs on a pole,
then greased the pole but Hadley didn't know.
He ran up to the pole and looked way high,
and saw all that food with such a gleam in his eyes.
He commenced to climb that pole then he would slide back down,
and poor old Hadley would give it another round.
After a while Hadley became so mad,
he stood just below the feeder and hit the ground with his little front pads,
As though having a fit for the food he couldn't reach ,
and fussing at the birds who came for their treats .
left behind to fend for himself,
and what a life he did make.

awsome
This is a wonderful poem, I like the squirrel He knows where his bread is buttered. They can get in such messy situations, and run and they have fun, pulling that pun. Very much appreciated, It was a pleasure to read.

Loved it!
it truly is a capturing moment...when we spy on nature
that tickles us with their antics!
I enjoyed the Houdini aspect to your story!
We sometimes are so unaware how blindly we are robbed
by little creatures and what they consider treasures!
fun and enjoyable story, thankyou for sharing it,
delightful laughter for the soul.

A very cute write! Squirrels are so funny & so eccentric! We used to have a cat that loved to hang out in our back yard. The squirrels would climb far out on the tree branches and fuss at him. They'd really make a racket!!

Brilliant!
This is so familiar to me, who is a keen observer of many squirrel families in my backyard. You are right about their mannerisms. The young ones are quite playful in fact. I can imagine the frustruation of Hadley when he couldn't climb the pole...lol. You were too naughty to do that to him (kidding).

SO ENJOYABLE!!!!!
I am sure this was a very comical sight! I know given enough time he would have thought out another way up to that feeder.
