Life In Words

There’s a poet that I’ve come to know it’s been just past a year
he’s been my mentor and the dearest friend,
he has the knack to make me laugh and even shed a tear
although there’s times he sends me round the bend.
His name is Cricketjeff and he’s a writer on AP
One day he will become the greatest poet there can be.

He rhymes his words in perfect form, the style that he likes best
he’s even known to write a bit of free,
he’ll always manage something if you put him to the test
and post it on a page for all to see.
His name is Cricketjeff and he’s a writer on AP
One day he will become the greatest poet there can be.

Everyone would write in rhyme if he just had his way
some romance with a little touch of wine,
on issues of importance he is known to have his say
and you know with him he’ll lay it on the line.
His name is Cricketjeff and he’s a writer on AP
One day he will become the greatest poet there can be.

Romance is where he sparkles and his thoughts they come alive
he’ll take you on a journey with his words,
transportation to the moon and back on kisses you will thrive
he’s even known to charm songs from the birds.
His name is Cricketjeff and he’s a writer on AP
One day he will become the greatest poet there can be.

He’ll teach you all his knowledge about poetry and verse
and always seems to take life in his stride,
very rarely is he angered and he’s never known to curse
or run away and find somewhere to hide.
His name is Cricketjeff and he’s a writer on AP
One day he will become the greatest poet there can be.

For months he practised sonnets ‘til at last he got them right
now he can scribe as well as any bard,
he’ll even practice flying by the moon at dead of night
or write a simple verse for any card.
His name is Cricketjeff and he’s a writer on AP
One day he will become the greatest poet there can be

So there you have our poet Jeff, unique, one of a kind
who’ll lift you when your spirits feeling down,
he’ll share all of your troubles and he really doesn’t mind
and to make you smile though you may wear a frown.
His name is Cricketjeff and he’s a writer on AP
One day he will become the greatest poet there can be.

Without his words to guide him he’d be one unhappy man
and his love of life and verse would take a dive,
his muses would all leave him and upset his greatest plan
for it’s poetry that keeps this guy alive.
His name is Cricketjeff and he’s a writer on AP
One day he will become the greatest poet there can be.

What can I say? To be honoured in my own favourite meter, in my favourite rhyme scheme, WOW!!!

There are so few poets on AP who write polysyllabic feet well, any don't seem to believe they exist! But here you have no only written them superbly but repeatedly maintaining th ode structure perfectly.
To me this poem has the sound of a Victorian parlour game, but one being played by a group of master poets. Wonderful, brilliant poetry.

I think Jeff saw you standing in "slips" and thought to himself... "there's a fine leg!". It's time to bowl "a maiden over". I hope he doesn't get "no balled" for overstepping the mark!

This is a beautiful poem. It is a great dedication for a master poet. He is one of the best rhymers I have read on this site.
