Drop-Kick

Missing image
My mind is plain exhausted, d'oh!
It's feeling so abused;
each pearl of wisdom kept therein
has been so overused.

Now every time I tap into
my head, I get confused ~
and worse than that, I feel as though
my  brain is bashed and bruised!

These lines I write...I struggle with ~
ideas are bent and fused,
and though folk try to cheer me up,
I'm sure they're all bemused.

I feel abandoned, left, bereft,
I pray to be excused...
Perhaps I need a Doctor who could
get my blood transfused.

This drop-kick of a helpmate, well
I feel so damn misused...
Where is it when I need it? Let me say:
"I'M NOT A-MUSED!"

Author notes

The poem is about your muse...

Is your muse the best part of you?

Does your muse leave you when you need it most?

Great last line ~ nice pun~ I thought the write was witty ~ and full of emotion -- especially when you have a muse who hinders more than they help....

    I feel for you!

HA! But you ARE A-Mused. The word "amuse" means "no think" hence an amusement park where you go to get away from thinking! I get the sort-of double entendre though and it does work well! It sort of adds to the confusion! Very cute and I wish you the best for placing!

Great write!! Really impressive rhyming job, and a fun play on the prompt. Best of luck in the contest. This is a humorous piece, but can totally relate. It's been a while since I really even got a chance to think about really working on a poem (though ironically I was able to "spit one out" yesterday, but it was nothing that I really sat down, got inspired, and banged out.)
Best of luck in the contest.
