The cultivated woman
at the farmer's market
comes every Saturday
smiles across the table
hands over five dollars
and bunches the basil and mint
into one bundle
promising
(a little too toothily)
They're going to live together.

yes, it seemed a little incongruous to me at the time, which is why I found it comical - I was the girl selling the herbs.
