An empty meadow, freshly ploughed,
holds potential, if allowed
simply to reseed itself;
grassy systems underneath
greener pastures will bequeath
unto forest's shelf.
In the rut of tractor tire
pollywogs will flourish, wire
fence provides a perch
for the blackbird, sparrow, hawk;
here the harrow throws a rock
at the feet of larch.
In the growth a nesting mouse
finds potential for a house
that, come Fall, is mown,
stacked in piles for the stock -
press dried vetch, sweet clover, shock
of Indian corn.

A meadow as busy as a city
The network of meadow life makes sure there is never a dull moment. I like how both wildlife and humans can benefit from this meadow. Great rhymes. THANK YOU

I enjoyed the forward movement of the poem over time. I also liked that you pulled the little creatures into the life of the field. The complaint that I have is that I wanted it to go on and let me see what else was going to happen! Very nice work. Good luck! ~ Joyce
PS. LOVE your photo.

Delightful imagery and wonderfully descriptive choice of words. Thank you for sharing this scene with me poet!
