Library Cards

With vow and vision I planned a steady stroll to acquire my lease on wisdom,
a library card of gateway to the worlds of light, self improvement freely given,
but the day was so cold and my body ached, enlightenment's progress could wait,
plus it would mean driving through traffic when I could simply watch television,
let sanity prevail in my easy chair, visual education from sitcoms enough acumen today.

My neighbor paid a visit with a question about life, I offered him some snacks,
the need to know getting lost while savoring the rerun of a favorite flick,
soon the cinematic inebriation shrunk the world into lethargy's box,
any cares fading into the mind's shadows, comatose passions such a sleepy sensation,
we did speak of library cards in passing, but quickly forget why.

Congratulations on the gold trophy. Your poem is a good response to the prompt, and a timely reminder to me of the effort it takes to make changes. The final line says it all!

    Thank you for your entry

Well this certainly paints the picture of the prompt. How easy we all fall into such traps. They seem to draw us in and seem quite logical but all the while they seep in and before we know it we are lost.

I encourage you to keep writing to read and comment.

    God Bless
    Tammy

    excellent~

While thinking about doing one thing
You and your neighbor did completely the opposite...
That can happen as we get wrapped up in T.V tho at times I would much more perfer to read...now that we have a new library system here at home we have to pay if were overdue..never had to before...so far I have had to pay 90 cents...not bad considering I check out about 11 books each time I go not to count the paperbacks
Best of luck in the contest
