Silence permeates the air. Solid and unmoving. I see you baby. Lying there on the cold ground. My head shifts to the left as I watch you there. Hush my love. Don’t make a sound darling. I am sure that you are sorry. I am sure that you think you will never do it again. Kneeling close I stroke your arm. Don’t be afraid of me love. I am freeing you. I will no longer rage against you. I will no longer tear you down. I am not your life anymore. I am not your darling love. I am not the one you long to touch. I see you fading now my sweet one. Close your eyes and sleep honey. Hush now. Don’t cry. Fly away free. Fly far and free and know that you were loved… too bad you broke my heart.
Author notes
This is about a man not about a child. A common misconception when reading I felt the need to clarify.

Wow, this is so sad yet so beautiful. Your words and writing style are perfect to set the tone of the poem. Great job!

Woo-hoo! Creepy killers ftw. I like the tender, matter-of-fact tone of the narrator. It makes it all the more disturbing.

Good stuff! I like the free style approach, rather then a lined or structured approach. it works for me.
