Homecoming.

The whisking sounds of metal upon metal
filled the chill evening air
as Alexandre sharpened his sword.
A frown of concentration upon his
chiseled face softened
when his eye caught the eye
of his loving wife sitting near.
Elizabeth sat sewing by the fireplace,
He could see the fear in her eyes,
he knew that she doubted this time
of his safe return home.
The cloak she sewed for him,
soft wool to keep him warm,
lined with all her love
and blessings for his safe homecoming.
Her hand wavered as a tear
escaped her delicate eye.
Alex stood, putting his sword away.
As he walked to her,
she fiercely wiped away the tear.
Wordlessly he leaned down
and caressed her cheek with his
sun-beaten hands;
the hands of a warrior.
She buried her face in his hands,
tears flowing freely.
When she looked at him again,
he remembered all the vows made
not so long ago.
He wished he wasn't called away
to serve his Lord in this fight.
His place was here, now,
with her.
Such a simple life,
but a life full of beauty
and wonder, as long as
he could have her as his wife.
His thoughts disturbed
by her clenching his hand,
she pulled his rough hand down
to place it lovingly on her abdomen.
His eyes jolted to hers as she felt
the little life there, growing daily.
She smiled and nodded, no words needed.
He fell into her arms,
and the sun rose too soon there-after.
A last kiss upon her cheek
as the morning sun
chased the fog off his road,
He looked back once
to wish that this was a home-coming,
and it couldn't come soon enough.

Your words inspired me to write a poem that would be of his homecoming and how I could see it happening. This is something that could be just a glimps of a book.
