A colony on my own asteroid,
Twenty or fourty miles across;
In a stable orbit around the sun,
Located further out than pluto.
Right on the edge of the Solar system,
I could watch everything happening,
Inside our systemas well as outward,
With a custom-built, giant telescope.
I could track comets and quasars,
Pulsars and binary stars;
Galactic clusters and nebulae,
Searching for signs of life, near or far.
I would have all the amenities,
And hopefully an occasional guest;
Being subject to usual human frailties,
All that time alone could get me depressed.
So an occasional paramour would also be nice;
For in all that Galactic study and viewing,
I would risk forgetting that I am still human,
Needing to satisfy my internal universe of
seemingly unquenchable desires.
Author notes
Wrote a story once about someone with a house on an asteroid. A tempting fantasy.
