This is a story about my nephew,
he began drugs at sixteen.
For at the time he thought it was wild,
like awake while within a dream.
He heard his Moms cry many times,
yet ignored them for the thrill.
Now today he is 29 yet looks 58,
and today so prays he will live.
Beat in an alley from a night of cocaine,
with a pipe they crushed his entire face.
Thought we had lost him but he made it through,
and in a whisper he told his Mom now what do I do.
Two weeks after he got home his son lost his eye and his hand,
he was just cleaning up the garage for another man.
There were pipe bombs there only he didn't know,
and when it went off the owner of the home left him there alone.
The son after going through all of this with his Dad,
together they healed and life wasn't bad.
His son graduated through all that pain and strife,
but his Dad went back to drugs and that's just not right.
Honey your friend you have their is an angel in disguise,
look to her for comfort and know what she is telling you is right.
The pain you may feel in there is nothing to what you will see,
if you go back to the drugs there will come a time no one will hear your plea.
I cry for the young people who often gets on the harder drugs by the use of alcohol,
and they are just out for a good time until the devil came to call.
I will pray for your guidance and to find joy is from within,
no artificial drug could ever a heart mend.
With a big hug from Texas know we are here if you ever need,
friends are near and far and please hear our plea.
Keep your beauty and help your heart and soul heal and take her hand,
For honey you have one hell of a friend there with an excellent plan .

YES!
Yesyesyesyesyes. Hi! I'm the girlfriend. YES to your poem. Just, YES. Yes yes yes yes. 10 stars, my friend. Honest and raw and it completely identifies. I too, should also logically be dead. For some reason, something kept me alive. Though ONE line I have critcsm for...
"and they are just out for a good time until the devil came to call" < that's not completely true... for me anyhow. I wasn't looking for a good time. Ever. Just, looking to get away from chronic bad times. But thank you all the same from the bottom of my heart

How true! No matter how many times, one tells their children, they do not listen. Till it is too late. You really show us that things can change in the blink of an eye, and drugs only makes it worse. Great message in this one!
Best of luck in this contest!
and love
Nyetta
