Hurt by the words and way of things
Engulfed by bitterness it brings
We justify becoming that
Which has hurt us and turn our backs
The hatred that can consume us
Can destroy and whither brittle trust
It’s at these times that we must see
That what we sow is what we reap
Don’t become that thing which you hate
Don’t let it be your soul they take
Caring for others is a gift
That shapes your life and how you live
At times some will take away
A piece of you and cause you pain
And at these times we must choose
Just how big a piece we lose
We can let them have the upper hand
Or we can be the better man
Don’t be consumed by what you hate
For then the loss is just too great
To loose the caring you possess
To turn your back on innocence
To let them turn your heart to cold
You might as well give up your soul
For never will you fill the void
Left by that bitter, hurting choice
And hurting others will not bring
A recovery from that pain
The callousness it propagates
And transforms more to what you hate
Instead show that you still can care
Despite your pain reach out and share
The consideration that they lacked
Don’t turn other’s hearts to black
For in the end you will have lost
You will have paid the highest cost
