Though I never held you close
to my heart, cocooned within warm embrace,
or saw your ruby rosebud lips part
with the gift of a smile upon your face,
nor prepared a pretty layette
in the softest shades of pastel hue,
sweet, precious, peterborough baby
these thoughts are dedicated to you,
Sleep soundly in the arms of Mary
sleep deeply in the hallowed halls
of heaven, hush-now, hush-now,
you won't suffer or feel pain again.
Author notes
Dedicated to the spirit of the newborn baby found dead today in the rubbish skip in Peterborough in England.
May the baby rest in peace.

This hits close to home... closer than you'd think. I live not too far away from Peterborough, and when I heard the news on this subject I was sickened. Children are beautiful to me, and the emotion pouring over in this poem suggests that you share the same view. I love the flow and the rhyme, this is an exceptional poem.
I wish you the best of luck, and keep writing and improving your poetry. ^__^

That's so sad. I always feel sad, just the way you do, when I read something like that in the news. It seems to happen so often.

So lovely
So soft and embracing. I almost feel like they're my words from your words. Such a classic style. When I saw "mum" I knew where you are from. Author notes are shocking. Your bits of wisdom are most intertesting.
Who is this YC with such a beautiful name, I have to read more.

Ouch. What a heartfelt tribute. Submit it to the paper, please? So the community can see it. Otherwise how jaded we become...

Thankyou, the baby's fate was in the paper's but just a few lines inside the paper, not even a mention if the baby was a girl or a boy. Not that it matters whether it was a boy or a girl but it just de personalized the baby and the tragedy even more. Jaded, yes, maybe society is becoming de sensitized to tragedy's in reality, sometimes it seems that way.

The softness of a child
The softness of a child & the cooing of it words and the smile of sweetness that melt one heart. This baby is care for by the angels of god. Safer than it was. The baby is resting and cooing in god arms only to wish that baby didnt suffer that fate of the hands of the one who will suffer worse when put to death for a child. He will not see heaven door , but will be greeted by those below. His or her spirit will never walk the land of goodness granted only by god. instead they will walk the land of fire and never never come to land again.
This was very very good my little sister.
I love you and thank you for writing to me.

Sondra, I am grateful that you left your heartfelt words for this baby who suffered such a sad end to a life not lived. I echo your beliefs. Bless you for thanking me, I was no help at all, but yet you let me ramble, bless you again.

A heartfelt tribute to an unknown child.
Another heartbreaking story showing humanity's failure.

-
In loving blessed words you give the angel wings. For those without love for a child in their hearts, this is a tumpet blast of the fury God will bring to them if they cannot honor his gifts.
Love, Tom B.
