"This place is horrible. It’s so bad my skin wants to walk away without me."   Witch Blood, Anya Bast.

…somewhere less ebony
than the stench of this room.
My shadow scuttles close behind
pale flesh and leaves the door
ajar, lest
mind should find spooks
within the bare chipped walls
and need to escape
through sanity's threshold.

Author notes

Inspired by the quote. "This place is horrible. It’s so bad my skin wants to walk away without me." Witch Blood, Anya Bast.

I've read this before...and still like it...but I just noticed you left the "r" out of "Threshold" in the title....ooops

I really like the very abstraction of this; the imagery is particularly effective. Appropriate language use throughout, nothing is wasted and that's how it should be! Like the use of figurative devices, particularly personification. Good luck in your contest. Thanks for sharing.

This is very artsy, girl. You've truly taken the spirit of the quote which inspired you and expanded on it in a way that remained true to the author's intentions. Not only that, but you've chosen interesting, vivid language that keeps the mind engaged. Not too wordy...just enough to get your point across while setting the mood for the reader.
