Went to the ambition's finance company
and used my conscience for collateral,
receiving a nice bag of greed's coins,
warned it would only last for a season
before they turned to slugs.
Then I would have to pay
the debt on morality's loan,
which would be include interests
on the profit of my deeds,
but I was so consumed with visions of gain,
just ignored the charges expected.
Each letter of paranoia coming at night,
I did my best to not read,
never keeping any portion of my wealth
to make payments to the lender.
So then when I had finally purchased my crown,
ready to retire and gloat,
there came circumstance's bill collectors,
being too late for me to only pay just the loan fee,
nothing worse than having hope repossessed
when you sold your soul and values
for the tarnished taste of tinsel.

The prompt Past Due is taken the mind and reader for run through payments field. I think everyone get caught up in the "Make thousands each month" to good to be true (and that is the truth). The pay back given beyond value to hold on such a short time with this pleasure. Nicely penned for such a great write.
