"Green bologney's not too bad,
if you scrape it off," said Dad.
"Don't give the liver to the cat;
maybe I might have wanted that!"
"MMM, Pickled eggs...what a delight;
why, I could eat them every night!"
But then the gas...Oh how it blows!
Sometimes I have to hold my nose!
"That hamburger stinks? Well, so you say,
Wash it off! It'll be okay!"
"The goulash has been there a bit too long?"
"Add jalapeno....there's nothing wrong!"
"Waste not, want not is what I say!"
"We had to eat dirt back in my day!"
"You say it's been in there for weeks,
and that the refrigerator reeks?"
"That wasn't cilantro on that potato stuff?"
"Just heat and eat....it's good enough!"
(Afterword)
Then his stomach began to churn
He complained about such bad heartburn!
His face got red, he had to spew!
I snickered and said, "Hey, I told you!"
And now whenever I throw out the food
that has gone past it's time...it's understood.
He sort-of just looks the other way
"cause he remembers how sick he got that day!
Author notes
Funny! Have you ever known anyone who just can't stand to throw anything out? This is just for them!
How does this poem make you feel? What was your general impression?

This poem makes me feel like I am reading a Dr. Suess book due to the rhyming and funniness that have been laced through the truth about food that is too old to eat. It also reminds me about my grandparents. While I love them dearly, they are the type of people who don't ever throw hardly anything away. They recycle almost everything that they can, and would never think about not clearing their plates- even when they are stuffed. Even the stuff like peals get put in a compost pile, for their garden. Anyways- the only thing I would change would be the last part- it seems to change a lot in style from the first section of 2 line segments of quotes. I'm not sure if there is a way to re-word the whole (afterward) section, but I think it would go better if it were also quotes in 2 line stanzas. -
Haha, this is a riot. I got one of those in my family, who'll never throw anything out. "Scrape off the top, the inside is fine"

Fun read. nice job with the rhyming and humor.
