We made an elevator with a bucket and a rope.
Do you want to go first I asked,
and you said, nope.
So eyes upon that limb so high, I climbed inside,
I jerked and pulled, tugged away,
the first to take the ride.
The ground began to fall away, I felt excitement grow,
I know I'm going to make it,
but you said no.
Well, you just wait and see I shouted, still so sure,
that's when I heard the cracking,
doubts began to stir.
To late though, I was coming down and coming down quick,
I tried to jump out to safety,
feeling scared and sick.
When that bucket hit the ground, I knew real pain,
agonised in every fibre
my cries profane
The doctor who they took me too was quite insensitive,
He cut the bucket loose and laughed,
and said I'd live.
I never made another lift, that was the last for me,
my name is Ed, not Otis,
for a reason, certainly.
