"The poetry of earth is never dead"
— John Keats
The sun rattles.
An old tin can, rusted
bent
red/yellow/orange— leaves flip and twist
as the wind strolls by;
greetings of long friends, comrades.
Scent of summerfresh lingers
just a bit
before scurrying off to the coast
to mix with salt water crests.
Adam cocks his head, listens.
Cardinal sits on a branch
chirps to him
explains the world's turning slightly.
Keats on the bench
flat spined; he speaks the language.
I laugh as Adam's eyebrow lifts
cardinal chirps, joins in with the wind.
Leaves flutter
and the sun rattles.
An old tin can, rusted
bent.

I love Keats. Nice poem. I have come to love the disjointed and surreal quality of your writing.

Great poem!
Good luck in the contest.

This was coated in surreal beauty, the playful yet poignant display deeply touching with its brilliant imagery. This is what poetry should be and others would do well to heed its example.
Gorgeous.

I like this
because I am reminded of how I try to find poetry everywhere; and because you have done it with such skill. I will likely not look at the sun quite the same again
This was a warm smile to find waiting today
it has been too long since I have read you.

I've missed your talent and skill. This is brilliant. The best to you in the contest.

I really like this! I especially like the lines "Cardinal sits on a bench/chirps to him/explains the world's turning slightly." It's so serene--it just feels like it embodies autumn perfectly.

This is just plain great. I can hear the tin can rattle
