Not Again!

Missing image

No! Not again

My dad has been drinking

I try hiding in the corner of my room

and cover my ears

.

Yet, I still can hear him downstairs

yelling and cussing at my mommy,

and then, a loud slap!

My mommy is crying...

I'm trembling;

tears running down my cheeks

I must not cry out loud or I’ll be next

.

Suddenly, a loud scream,

“Where is that little bitch!”

Footsteps...

He's coming up the stairs

I pray to God,

“Please protect me.”

    Thank You!!

Thank You for Your entry: Not Again
This piece tugged hard at Spirit and while I was reading which I do several times~ Images come to me in many forms~ while taking in Your words: I try hiding in the corner of my room- what is so sad is that the parent is unable to muster strength to defend against the abuser- I'm shown an example of a Lioness when a new Lion takes over the pride- he kills all the offspring that is not his- a small percentage of Lioness'- will defend her cubs but the majority will not and just accept the genocide- After reading again I am shown how the *bottle* seems to give the man super human strength- so he or she thinks (temporarily) to let loose- just lash out without cause for concern- cast blame- point fingers of fault at spouse- children- instead of looking inward to deal with the problem causing strife- it seems the *bottle* and the abuse becomes the answer- Very sad to envision However this to be interpreted
    Whether metaphor or symbolism
Hopefully the above comment makes some sense~
Excellent take on the prompt ~
Powerful images & message You have brought forth

Thank You for sharing Your Voice and Spirit!
Best wishes to You in the contest Sweet Soul
    **Judging will be done shortly...
    Many blessings too
    and much love & light~ Desire~*~

A sad story which unfortunately is all too common for many children. Phisical abuse is a terrible ordeal to cope with and hopefully one day it comes to an end but the resulting mental anguish is something that may last for year, if not a lifetime. I think your poem, though fairly short, shows clearly the fear these children live with on a daily basis.

Wow! You are good at these free writes baby; this is dark, intense and says so much more than it seems.

Thank you as always for the kind comments. This was a powerful image to work with that speaks so loudly. Abuse to our little ones [in fact abuse to anyone] must end.
      Thanks again sweetie
