Innocence Stolen

Missing image
Within tender tears
childhood innocence bled.
Driven to depressions corners
of barbed taunts.
Unshielded from painful jabs
fragile body broken.
Laughter drowned amongst silent sobs.
Glistening eyes blackened and shallow,
haunting signs a sinking soul.
Child's innocence stolen of such malice
feeding ones' own darkened secrets.
Innocence unknowing their fate next
always hiding the dark.
Forever silent their voice
in fear they do wrong.

I owned and ran a Daycare for 5 years with a good reputation with Child Protective Services in my area. Many a child was brought to us (My staff and I)and we could see the pain and loss in their eyes. It saddens me deeply to think of a child, any child having to endure such....The loss of their childhood innocence.

    Thank You1!

Thank You for Your entry: Innocence Stolen
This piece tugged hard at Spirit and while I was reading which I do several times~ Images come to me in many forms~ while taking in Your words: Unshielded from painful jabs- after reading this I was reminded how children are used as shields- parental stress- tension- the child used as the punching bag- instead of going to the gym- the parent-guardian releases in privacy of own home- I'm reminded how the child portrayed as property instead of family- part of Heart- but Love absent- hollowed where either Hate- Anger- Resentment- Jealousy etc occupied- and escaped to hunt like a predator However this to be interpreted
    Whether metaphor or symbolism
Hopefully the above comment makes some sense~
Excellent take on the prompt ~
Powerful images & message You have brought forth

Thank You for sharing Your Voice and Spirit!
Best wishes to You in the contest Sweet Soul
    **Judging will be done shortly...
    Many blessings too
    and much love & light~ Desire~*~

Thank you for reading and commenting. Abuse can travel in so many forms. Words can cut and bruise as deep a punch. In my view one is as bad as the other and neither should be put up with. Many adults do seek reinforcement of their own worth in such curel ways, but also other childern that witness (or even the victums themselves) these tauts and actions feel it is an exceptable way to behave. The result is a society in a moral decline and disapparence of the family bond.

    It Is So Sad

Wow you did a great job on this poem and the pic. It is so true like you said in the poem they are so innocent and in the end the think they did something wrong,, I know for I was one of those children. Severly abused and I still go to therapy.

    Unshielded from painful jabs
    fragile body broken.

This is so sadly true. You did an excellent job and best of luck in the contest.
    Wishing You Many Blessings

Thank you so much for your time in stopping and reading and for your comment. It was really not my intent to win in this but just to convey what I had seen at the daycare that touched me to my soul. If I resurrected any pain for anyone that was not my intention. Guess I just had to get my feelings out there.

It is truly a sad, sad thing, I agree with you Rick. My daughter was asst. director at a daycare previously and saw far too much abuse of those innocent little children. I can't write for this topic, I cry too much just thinking about it. Nothing is more painful to see or hear about than an abused child. Best of luck my friend.

It saddens me too and enrages me even more. For some reason I couldn't pass it by without writing something.
