Oh school in the years 1953 to 1971,
what a riot is was.
Kids back then was taught respect,
for one another.
And yes we fought but we knew,
we would be punished for it there and
by our mothers.
Times where we learned so much,
and often shared what we had to use.
Was kind to one another,
and we had such muse.
Clothing wasn't a problem although,
girls had to wear a dress.
But that was OK,
we were prettier than the rest.
A time where the teacher truly had full reign,
may throw and eraser to get your attention again.
Come up behind you and suddenly you would hear a smack,
sting it did but from then on attention you didn't lack.
There were no cussing ever in my school,
and the silence was a must when you walked in the room.
I learned very young you never lock the teacher in the closet indeed,
So you can climb out the window and play on the swings.
Oh learning was a must no playing around,
until the bell rang and we could go out on the grounds.
Once we snuck back in and placed a tack in teachers chair,
and when we all came back in oh he became so aware .
Three laps around a football field in 3 minutes he replied,
for no one would tell who did it that's right.
When we returned late from the laps three licks we all received,
from a paddle whittled with a bat handle and over the desk we did lean.
Oh it was fun though if you behaved,
and something would happen every day.
Time went fast and the style was all ours,
like the flair bottom tight pants and the 57 Chevy cars an paper flowers.
Oh those were the days*********

A wonderful look back at the days of your youth. Many of the things we lack now. Respect especially. Those times were great, we just didn't kow it then

Strange teachers indeed -
DID you lock a teacher in the closet?!
Yes, the old days I hear about from my parents. But more so on parenting than teaching. Kids who are not taught respect at home do not respect at school. I think my class was one of the last that came close to the old days, the class of 2000. At least where I went to school. Good write!
