September Song

Missing image
There is a soft hush around the corner,
a colorful pallet will soon appear,
September, about to burst into song,
brilliance on autumn leaves domineer.

Rustle lightly on the sycamore branches,
upon mighty tall oak and maples trees.
Overhead, see geese and gander flying,
riding wind currents on southern breeze.

First killing frost soon begins to gather,
settles on foliage and window panes.
The harvest moon will soon be waning,
farmers gather and reap summer's grains.

September plays a bittersweet love song,
as summertime romance is left behind.
All too soon summer love is forgotten,
as homework and grades fill the mind.

Initially i thought of this a beautiful tribute to nature, which it is. After a few times of reading my mind kinda latched on to the feeling of how are lives are constantly changing along with the seasons. Not always colourful, sometimes we have to experience the cold barren hands of winter but always safe in the knowledge that summer will soon come round again Lovely write my friend , gently thought provoking

    Hi Sandy

I somehow missed this poem. It's suppose to be spring in SA, but in one part of the country we are getting snow and the other side it has been so hot that the fields are burning and causing deaths. I enjoyed your poem's flow, its reminders of what has been. I enjoyed reading it. Frans

What a vivid work penned for September. The reader is taken into leaves change, birds flying south, the first frost that will come. Farmer's reap the crops as summer love is forgotten to see children return to school. The rhyme is nice and tie the stanza together moving time forward.
