Beast that lives within me
Casting a dismal shadow
Over my life
But light creeps in
In the little spaces
I bask in its glory
As brief and fleeting
As these moments are
You try and fill my life with lies
Speaking of my ugliness
Of the absence of my worth
You say I am nothing
To no one on the earth
If all this is true
Then why do you struggle so much
To keep me down
Engulfed in your wicked shadow
Perhaps you know in the light
I could see the truth
That the beast within me
Is an empty horror
A substance less shadow
Cursing the light
Afraid of the truth
I must find the courage
To see beyond the darkness
To battle the fear
That you have fostered in me
But for now I must cling
To the patches of light
Hang on and continue
To fight my way out
From under your vile darkness
So I can live free in the light
