Ravenous Beauty

Ravenous beauty

forsakes no one;

we all seek its grandeur,

unknowing the simple delights

inherent in the sun's rising

& a single breath

held.

She hides

where none can find her

until they open their unseeing eyes

& finally understand:

she is everywhere,

awaiting our grasp...

Author notes

Art: "Solitude" by Frederick, Lord Leighton

Contest prompt:

“All these things have you said of beauty.
Yet in truth you spoke not of her but of needs unsatisfied,
And beauty is not a need but an ecstasy.
It is not a mouth thirsting nor an empty hand stretched forth,
But rather a heart enflamed and a soul enchanted.
It is not the image you would see nor the song you would hear,
But rather an image you see though you close your eyes and a song you hear though you shut your ears.
It is not the sap within the furrowed bark, nor a wing attached to a claw,
But rather a garden for ever in bloom and a flock of angels for ever in flight.
People of Orphalese, beauty is life when life unveils her holy face.
But you are life and you are the veil.
Beauty is eternity gazing at itself in a mirror.
But you are eternity and your are the mirror.”

~ Kahlil Gibran

  • "Leaving the building"

She hides where none can find her until they open their unseeing eyes & finally understand what they always knew if the poetic spirit run true in their veins ... she streams everywhere

Beautiful words by a beautiful woman...how can one not see when poetry moves the mind and pours into the heart?...and the shadow of her soul is light?

Yes, it is in the way we look and see... so much beauty around, between and in us.

"until they open their unseeing eyes
    & finally understand:"

Beautiful poetry, my friend. One has to carry the beautiful inside to be able to see it...you see it and you can write it like this!

Oh yes, yes and yes once again!!!! You have penned a masterpiece that contains a universal truth, if only more of us could see and understand it.
