[ Stay away from those with devils in their eyes, my son. ]

Stay away from those with devils in their eyes, my son.
As sirens lure sailors to rocky shores.
Stay away from those with devilsin their eyes, my son.
As the honey in their mouths may be sweet, their stingers are sharp & envenomed.
Stay away from those with devils in their eyes, my son.
As promises of endless tomorrows abound, the pain of those days does not befit the price.
Stay away from those with devils in their eyes, my son.
As dozens of blooms spring from a single bush, thousands of thorns accompany the rose.
Stay away from those with devils in their eyes, my son.

A devil in the eyes, means a devil in the soul, my son.

    Very good

This is an excellent piece. Despite its reference to women in your past, aka, me. It wasa very well done.

Thank you. It wasn't wholly inspired by events in my own life, though. I actually wrote it while watching 'Carmen.' I occured to me that there's plenty of warning out there for young girls not to fall into such traps, but it's rare to find something of it's equivalent for young boys. It's a problem that's plagued people like me for centuries, but with the move in society towards women no longer acting as ladies, with any true sense of their virtue as it should be, it is likely that the threat will continue to get worse with time. I know a poem from a nobody in rural Ohio isn't likely to ever see the light of day, but it's an attempt.
