Laughing my way through life's
little practical jokes is
something I do often,
for self defense if nothing else.
I find that if I
don't laugh at my pain
I would cry, and
at my age,
the more I cry the worse it gets.
I have never been
a beautiful crier, my face swells,
my nose turns red,
I get all leaky, and really;
laughing looks better,
don't you think?
So yes, I look for a funny ending
to things (too) painfully
unbearable otherwise,
holding out for a laugh track echo,
a hiccup of "awe, just kidding,"
because frankly it's my way of
remaining somewhat copacetic.
Does that make sense?
So now,
my friend turns to me and
asks me to enter his contest,
because he knows how sarcastic
and sardonic I can be,
Bless Him, and his sadistic heart. . .
I sit here,
drumming my head,
think,
. . . think
think,
But nothing
comes to mind..
nothing comes to my page,
my rescue,
my defense,
my habit.
Me.
Nothing.
I mean really,
NOTHING?. . .
I cannot help but give
a little shake of sardonic head,
a snort of sarcastic,
self derision cackles back.
I mean REALLY,
how's that for ironic?

Wonderful
Very creative and so appropriate for the theme. And so full of truth. Congratulations on the honorable mention

I like the way your poem flows and the conclusion is great.
Thank you for a good read.

Once again, you've gone and written something brilliantly relevant. There are so many people, yours truly included, that simply shrug and laugh than to admit they're in pain.
Beautifully honest. Congratz on your hardware.. and clappy dudes!

Another honest look within
"I have never been a beautiful crier,
and laughing looks better, don't you think?"
We all know that, but it's easy to give intellectual assent to that position than to actually practice it isn't it Jin? I like the honest way you pour yourself out. I wish I had that much honesty in my work.

I won silver here! but the irony i am most proud of is winning bronze in Edna Sweetlove's contest with "All the Grapes." Help me figure out, is it irony when you get rewarded for making fun of the people who are making fun of people like you?
