we sat there locked in a battle of silent wits
your bitter blues trying to falter
the gaze of my brutal brown eyes;
I don't know the truth,
but I'm pretty sure that I know how to bluff.
Tell me that you knew
it would all come
crashing down like this.
The chamomile tea that was supposed to help us relax sits
in our green chipped cups on top of our white cloth covered table,
cold, unsipped from, and collecting dust that you used to complain about, but
could never really see.
Instead of trying to clear the static, fix the reception...you just tossed it[us] all away like an old school radio.
The sun tries to peak through the blinds and shine on the damp, gray painted walls
but the clouds understand what's really going on, and like the bouncer of a night club keep her away today.
you blinked; defeated
and walked away out of a door that
finally shut for the first time in months.
I sipped my cold tea,
and for the first time in awhile;
I breathed.

So sad and so relatable. To want to work things out and then for the one you love to just not think it's worth it. God, it breaks you in half.

Not long at all! I rather enjoyed it. Thank you very much for entering. It was well done. Good rhythm, and wordage. Nice ending as well. I could really feel the release at the end there. Great job!
