Coming Out

We stood so awkwardly for a moment,
I didn't know what to say.
I asked for a bit of time to think,
If only just a few days.

You see, he isn't what I want,
I don't even want a boy at all!
But I can't bare to lose him,
Nor can I continue to stall.

I'd have to tell him sometime,
And maybe sooner is better than late.
Because if he's a real friend, he'll understand
Just why I can't accept his offer to date.

But how do I explain it to him?
It's not everyday someone in his life comes out as gay!
And I'm afraid that if I don't act soon,
He may not choose to wait around and stay.

Oh, I'm so confused, so lost, so naive,
And I'm running out of time!
So with that sinking feeling in my gut, I say no,
And then I tell him why.

His eager childish grin starts to fade,
And soon it's a frown that's on his friendly face.
I can feel him slipping with each word I say,
And that his love for me is slowly being erased.

His frown twists into pure agony,
And he screams so as not to cry.
Still, I know I made the right choice-
It's better to hurt with the truth, than smile with a lie.

He's feeling sad, angry, and rejected,
As he silently walks so far away.
Maybe I've lost his friendship for now,
But I knew there wasn't any other way.

And with a bit of time, I know he'll come back,
Because after all, he's always been a great friend.
He'll accept this, move on, find someone else that's great for him,
And everything will return to normal in the end.

When he comes back, like he will,
I'll really know what true friendship is about.
Because if there's one thing that's hardest with most friends at first,
It's finally coming out.

Author notes

I'm gay too, though I've never been in this situation before. I hope you're able to figure it out and that all these poems help! ^_^ Best of luck!

Anyways, I chose option one. Thanks for the opportunity!
