Splashing drops
of cool forgotten rain,
coming from the strange
burning sun halfway hidden
beneath the pushing clouds.
Faster faster they fall,
harder harder they drop,
laughing I run out to jump
in the cool blessing
of the unforgiving day.
Coming out quietly,
you watch me as I sing,
smiling, you don't know
what do to with it.
Walking off the porch,
you dance with me,
in the growing wetness,
our shirts are soaked
in minutes time,
as we glide
hand in hand through
the drinking grass.
New songs we write,
new dances to try,
as we waltz
through the day.
The sun peeks from behind
the holding clouds,
slower slower the droplets fall,
softer softer they drop.
Until we are dancing
in sunshine,
drying our clothes
from the rain.
Still moving we fly
through the scorching sun,
hand in hand,
with the movement
of the rain.
Author notes
I had a rain like this, but the other person wasn't there. People just looked at me like I was crazy, but I imagine the other person (yes, he's real) would have danced with me.
