There and Here

My muse is where I'd like to be,
stretched out beside a coral sea
on the deck of a sailing ship,
sarong festooned about her hip -
raising a cocktail to her lip;
relaxed and joyful, calm and free.

I'd like to be where my muse is,
but here I am, 'cause biz is biz:
reports and meetings, friends and foes,
and thought for food, that's how it goes,
not food for thought. My modern woes
constrain my old creative fizz.

    Delightful!

Love the aptness of this poem. It is a thought to which anyone and everyone can relate. Very contemporary and unpretentious in language and rhyme it says what we all have felt in a way we can all appreciate. There is nothing introverted or isolating in this reflection. It's light, entertaining, friendly and well done. Thanks : )

A fine "compare and contrast" write! Entrancing initial lines draw the reader to a lazy and beautiful paradise setting. Lovely "sarong festooned about her hip."
Makes our lot look rather less inviting! Excellent "but here I am, 'cause biz is biz." Days that are packed sometimes have only "thought for food!"
Interesting "my modern woes constrain my old creative fizz." Maybe that's why we sometimes blow our corks? You describe a most appealing Muse hangout!
    Thank you for your entry!

    Entertaining poetry ...

to muse on and certainly your sincerity met the truth of the matter and then shared with good imagery. A well shared poem for a-Muse-ment! j y

Sounds like your Muse is in a wonderful place enjoying herself on board ship. Wouldn't that be great, but as you say biz is biz. But we can dream.

    True, true, true

That indeed is how it goes,
    Life festooned with minor woes.
Muse calls out with how it is,
    countermanding rheumatiz.

But do we listen? That's the catch.
    Only when we cannot snatch
a moment from the finite batch!

    Loved yours!
    Terry

    Ah, I see you there,
    sarong and all,
    and no chimney flu
    to soot the air!
    Love your style,
    your casual flair!

    Ah, Margaret ...

when my Muse becomes ME, then I become my MUSE ... And so it goes and so it goes ...

I love your poems ... Ah. What will we DO without love?

This is just beautiful. The conflict and yet keeping the flag flying. Being aware is the first and the last step, the hope of all redemption.
