The ornate marble staircase was the only remnant from her rule,
once it lead to an ivory palace, an edifice that nearly glowed with mercy,
where she sat as Queen over her nation.
Love beat deep within her angel heart,
guarding her dominion more as mother than monarch.
Standing on the balcony at top of the steps,
her radiant Venus form with goddess face,
sapphire eyes so bewitching with their stare of purity,
and auburn hair flowing in long elegant locks,
ever inspiring her subjects with the countless gifts of generosity.
She continued to hold her crown without complaint
even after losing sons and husband in a war,
her soul so defiant of evil's threat
that kept a flame of patriotism's passion alive in her subjects.
It still burned so bright when invaders sacked her capitol,
refusing to leave until her servants pleas swayed her to depart.
courage so enduring, never losing the grace and dignity of her heritage,
appearing among the refugees as the amber aura of her torched city
filled the night sky.
In calming words she stirred the few to greater heights of bravery,
warriors born of teachers, clerks and shop keepers,
who held her image in their minds
while fighting to win back what was lost.
During the night she poured forth her petition unto the gods,
offering her own life as ransom for the sake of people,
battle waged for days, but the valiant touched by her essence
at last reclaimed their birthplace and country.
But the gods accepted her life as succor for their intervention,
giving her one last breathe to speak parting words of affecting
unto the small circle gathered around her death bed,
tears of celebration mixed with those of mourning
as they wept over her body, which mysteriously vanished before her eyes.
Without her, they never rebuilt the palace,
rule passed on council,
still on that marble staircase her ghost appears at night,
faithful sovereign too caring to stop watching over realm.

Marvelously penned, the picture and poem work together so effortlessly, yet smooth transition between stanza the reader is drawn into the passions and destruction. The Queen over her subjects rules without fear and sacrafaces her essence to the God's for saving her kingdom for those she ruled. Great work
