shadows of leaves
falling
ashes
drifting in the breeze
my father
silence broken...
the trumpet plays
a final song
father...
in a single moment
left forever
flowers and things...
memories of my father
with his camera
dust to dust -
one day in a final wind
we'll meet again
Author notes
My father passed away Feb 2004.... yesterday August 22 was his birthday.... this haiku string reflects a few of my thoughts about him... about me and about life. He and I will meet again.... when I'm done here... down the line.

These strings of haikus are such a beautiful tribute to your father. It makes me miss my grandma, which is actually a good thing, rather then feeling numb and in shock all the time.

Hi.... great seeing you come by. Thanks!

I'd like to come by and read your poems more often, but I might be off the computer for a little while seeing as my 4 month old kitten made mincemeat out of my right hand. Little horror. I'd be even more angry then I am now if I didn't love the little brat so much.

Beautiful
Such a beautiful tribute, MB. I just love how you strung each individual haiku...each stands on its own so poignantly and together they make a beautiful soulful tribute.

Beautiful
What a loving tribute to someone so near and dear to your aching heart. It is good that you hold the knowledge that you will soon meet again and be together. Great read.

Not only with style
Don:
Not only have you mastered the style of this "string", but as with any well tuned, resonating string, you have delivered the "vibes" of a thoughtful man honoring his father with astonishing insight, clarity and simple grace.
Dampening your loss with the conviction of your beliefs is a compelling testimony that does not interfer with the readers sense of spirituality. In my experience, I have not discovered many who can achieve this impact, especially with so few words.
Thank you for sharing and provoking my memories (with the added plus of hearing the mentor/teacher).
Bj
PS
You AN's are a very good Amen.

excellent~
These are so excellent haiku's that you have penned about your father....
All are truly beautiful...
But I should like to think along the lines of the last one...
dust to dust
one day in a final wind
we'll meet again
Beautiful ku's sweetie...

Hi Susan... thanks so much. I hope you're feeling better these days. Big hug!

Beautiful haiku. I found the third one was especially moving - it reminded me of my grandfather's funeral when they played taps.
-
-
Thanks... yeah, taps is what I had in mind. You picked up on it perfectly... the silence... just before "taps" is stunning... then the first phrase breaks through... amazing moments in time....

Hi Paul... me too.... thanks for coming by.

Perfect
Very touching progression of images. I'm sure your father is smiling down on you proudly, and maybe even taking pictures of you still (when he's not hanging out with the bears.) You can't beat the perspective from heaven.
Beautifully done.
