I am slowly spoken,
rocky whisper,
evolving gift
of mother's earth,
wind, uplifting mountain sky
to seasoned swill of misty morning;
cold water line, awaiting sunrise,
crossing hill, as meadow's music
moving grassland,
dancing stem, fermenting swallow,
holding hue
through silent bending, sweeter river,
blushing soulful mending.
Read my flow in autumn lips,
orange, huckleberry passion
poised to vibrant buzz through clammy wings,
and frosted fingers floating wing-song,
this ancient cry of iridescent shimmer,
beckoning splash to chill the swimmer.
Feeling tremble, soul-song dubbing,
sensing call as pebbles,
rubbed beneath your trickling serenade,
I am diving, drinking deeper,
sinking swift in rhythmic flow!
Softest vesper seeps through being
stirring fervor, wings awakening--
precious curse of verse and essence,
overwhelming, no escaping--
chills so cool they turn to burning.
Drowning fast in nature uttered,
stolen breath and flailing flutter,
gulping rush of crystal tumbling
pleading, gasping, I am finding
passion
in your quiet flood.
Knowing day is swift unwinding
from beneath your waters climbing
stepping sure on purest rhyming
surface breaks
to open evening
where willows yearn beside your heaving.
Song beckons yet, though I am flying
there in air above your river.
Heightened heat entices sun-star
to slip behind the folded mountains
and drape her hues of rose and hyssop
over granite dressing screen
trading them for blackest robe
of silk,
slinking in your breeze.
Acquiescing to moonlit voice
(Glistening bliss on swooning blades),
I drift in twilight’s moist communion--
cloistered phrase, inspiring echo . . .
Roll my words in colder, canyon rush,
white water crushing fear to bubble,
granite rubble of purified soul,
reborn in river's thorny thirst
to fill your mind with ocean scripture.
Sweetest psalmist, spill your fountain,
winding tongues in mouth abounding!
Trepidation lost to soothing;
emptiness renewed at lips'
profound embankment.
