Sagacity

Sagacity

On a lazy lavender afternoon,
I balked at a Baedeker in the sand.
I could hear his voice from behind a dune.
Our meeting per chance could not have been planned.
He said: “I have just conferred with the moon
and Sir Hare was so kind as to help me stand”.
Now I was amazed as you might surmise,
that a book could speak and appear so wise.

I said to the book, so beautifully bound:
“How could a volume, tell me if I’m lost”?
“Do I appear rapt and not to be found”?
“And if you help me; what will be the cost?”
“No cost at all”, he replied so profound.
He had no fingers that he could have crossed.
I'm trusting a book, feeling quite daft,
I should have departed, turned and just laughed.

Now a talking book that works with a Hare
may seem outlandish and so out of place.
But I was so lost and the book was there;
I accepted his offer, with charm and grace.
“Now hear what I say” he uttered with care
and stared in my eyes with a stern boldface.
“Believe what I say until you’re well grown;
keep my wisdom and this Hare for your own”.

    Beautiful write, Sis. Wonderful poetic form, too. I like what you did with the prompt. It gave the poem almost like an alice in wonderland sort of feeling to it, with the rabbit. Thanks for sharing and keep that pen flowing.

    This is beautiful, enchanting and supremely constructed. You put dialog and storytelling into an ottiva rima! That is quite a feat. You should vault to the top of the contest. Great work. Have three bunnies.

    Ah, if Lewis Carroll saw this he'd think it escaped from Alice through the Looking Glass and try to captured it again. Great. You're work is always so impressive!

    So, is this where the 'lucky rabbits foot' thing came from, and what happened to the rest of the rabbit. Perhaps it ended up as hasenpfeffer stew and a nice pair of gloves? LOL!
    I know, that's bad, I'm in a strange mood and I just could not resist.

    Great write Amera and perhaps one day I'll try my hand at a Ottava Rima. All the best in the contest.

    With much love,
    mj.
